Heimomed Phonax® Prothese

Clinical application

The PHONAX® voice prosthesis was first introduced in Germany in May 2009. The valve body is made of polypropylene. There is a TPE reinforcement tube in the valve bush that carries the flap valve. The bush is interspersed with an x-ray contrast agent; its outer diameter is 7 mm (21 Fr) and the inner diameter 3.8 mm (11.3 Fr).

The shaft length (in mm) is on the tracheal flange. The tracheal side of the tracheal flange is identified by 6 nubs. For anterograde insertion, the PHONAX® is placed on a flexible applicator and attached using the fixation thread.

PHONAX® insertion system

The safety thread has a tensile strength of 15 N. The esophageal flange of the PHONAX® is bent slightly towards the shaft as an aid to insertion and to adjusting its length to the shunt. Clinical studies are currently being carried out on the PHONAX® voice prosthesis.
